The revised Waste Framework Directive places greater emphasis on the waste hierarchy to ensure that waste is dealt with in the priority order of:
• prevention
• preparing for re-use
• recycling
• other recovery (for example, energy recovery)
• disposal
Following the waste hierarchy is good practice which our business adopts as a matter of course within our Operational responsibility and Environmental policy. Our waste hierarchy is partly implemented through amended Duty of Care requirements from 28 September 2011. This provides our business guidance within the new Code of Practice.
Embracing InnovationNational electronic duty of care programme (edoc)
The (edoc) programme offers a modern environmental beneficial way waste is collected in the UK and aims to create a national web-based system to monitor the waste journey from production to collection, transportation, treatment and disposal. This new system will make it easier for waste companies to demonstrate to their customers how they are handling their waste. Once it is up and running the new system will replace waste transfer notes. To find out the latest about the (edoc) programme and how it is developing visit the Environmental agency web site.
